Buzz Aldrin: Armstrong called me ‘sugar tits’ during lunar descent

Buzz Aldrin claims that Neil Armstrong used inappropriate sexual language towards him during their lunar decent, it can be revealed. “We were flying at about 400 feet,” Aldrin remembers, “when Neil levelled out because the planned landing spot was strewn with truck sized boulders. It was a tense time and soon afterwards we got a low fuel light which meant we had 60 seconds of fuel left. Just then we got a computer error ‘1202’ when Neil casually turned to me and said:

‘1202 alarm. Any idea what that is sugar tits?’

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing; he certainly never did this in the simulator. He looked at me for what seemed like the longest time and then returned his attention to landing the Lunar Module as if nothing had happened. I assumed it was just the pressure of the moment but it really bothered me at the time. I just carried on calling out the speed and range numbers and pretty soon Neil had us on the moon and the rest of course is history.

“However,” Aldrin concedes, “it could have been much, much worse. Cyril Smith MP was on the original Apollo 11 crew roster but thankfully got bumped due to a grumbling appendix.”
